Author Guidelines

J Open is an international, peer-reviewed, open-access journal that welcomes high-quality research contributions in the fields of biological and environmental sciences. All submissions undergo a double-blind peer review process to ensure scientific rigor, accuracy, and relevance.

Types of Articles Accepted

The journal accepts the following types of manuscripts:

  • Original Research Articles – Novel scientific studies with new experimental or theoretical findings.
  • Review Articles – Comprehensive reviews and meta-analyses summarizing research progress in a specific field.
  • Short Communications – Brief reports on preliminary results or innovative approaches.
  • Case Studies – Practical applications and real-world examples with detailed analysis.
  • Editorials & Commentaries – Discussions and expert opinions on relevant scientific topics.

Submission Process

Manuscripts must be submitted via the online submission system. The submission process consists of the following steps:

  1. Manuscript Preparation – Authors must follow the journal’s formatting guidelines.
  2. Online Submission – Manuscripts should be submitted through the journal’s submission system.
  3. Initial Screening – The editorial team evaluates whether the manuscript fits the journal’s scope and basic quality standards.
  4. Double-Blind Peer Review – The manuscript is reviewed anonymously by at least two independent experts.
  5. Editorial Decision – Based on reviewer feedback, the manuscript is either accepted, returned for revisions, or rejected.
  6. Final Publication – Once accepted and edited, the article is assigned a DOI and published online.

Manuscript Formatting and Requirements

Manuscripts must be prepared according to the following guidelines:
File FormatMicrosoft Word (.docx) or LaTeX.
Language – English (US or UK, but consistent throughout).
Font & Spacing – Times New Roman, 12 pt, 1.5 line spacing.
Title – Should not exceed 15 words.
Author Information – Full names, affiliations, ORCID IDs, and corresponding author email.
Manuscript Structure:

  • Abstract (150-250 words)
  • Keywords (5-7 words)
  • Introduction
  • Materials and Methods
  • Results
  • Discussion
  • Conclusion
  • References (APA or Vancouver citation style)

Peer-Review Process

To ensure high-quality and unbiased evaluations, J Open follows a double-blind peer review system:

Initial Screening – The editorial board checks whether the submission aligns with the journal’s aims and standards.
Double-Blind Peer Review – The manuscript is reviewed anonymously by two independent experts.
Editorial Decision – The possible outcomes are:

  • Acceptance.
  • Minor/Major Revisions Required.
  • Rejection.

The peer review process typically takes 4-8 weeks.

Publication Fees and Schedule

  • J Open operates as an open-access journal, ensuring all articles are freely accessible.
  • Article Processing Charges (APC) may apply.
  • Publication Frequency – The journal publishes four issues per year (quarterly).

Ethical Standards & Plagiarism Policy

J Open adheres to the highest ethical standards in academic publishing:

Plagiarism Screening – All submissions undergo plagiarism detection via Turnitin or iThenticate.
Conflict of Interest Disclosure – Authors and reviewers must declare any conflicts of interest.
Research Integrity – Falsification, fabrication, or unethical research practices are strictly prohibited.

Manuscripts must comply with the Committee on Publication Ethics (COPE) guidelines.

Submission Preparation Checklist

All submissions must meet the following requirements.

  • This submission meets the requirements outlined in the Author Guidelines.
  • This submission has not been previously published and has not been reviewed in another journal.
  • All references have been checked for accuracy and completeness.
  • All tables and figures are numbered and labeled.
  • Permission has been obtained to publish all photographs, datasets, and other materials presented in this submission.
